HCC August Calendar

Hello Neighbors,

The calendar for the month of August in attached and offers entertainment and enrichment as we all continue to look to the sky for needed RAIN! 

The Hillsboro Historical Society will present a talk on Saturday, August 5^th at 4pm in the HCC auditorium. “The Black Range Highway: A Road Story”.  Below is a description of the talk.

The Black Range Highway over Emory Pass to Silver City was an engineering marvel back in 1935 and not paved until 1964. Joe Britton, of the Hillsboro Historical Society and Historical Society of New Mexico, will trace the dramatic history of this beautiful road (our own main street!).

Don’t miss the chance to hear Peter McLaughlin and Chris Brashear in concert at HCC on Sunday August 6^th at 4pm.  Peter specialized in acoustic flat picking and has won the national flat picking championship at Walnut Valley as well as 1^st place at Telluride.  Chris is one of the finest singers in bluegrass today.  He plays the mandolin, fiddle and guitar.  There is a suggested donation of $15 and snacks will be available for purchase.

There will be an outing of the Hillsboro birding group on August 15^th.  The group will meet at HCC at 6:45am and travel to Berrenda Ranch.   Please email Jan Richmond at canoelakealgonquin@icloud.com for more information.

There is a concert at the Black Range Lodge on August 19^th at 7pm.  “Double Duos” offers the music of Wil Maring, Robert Bowlin, Chris Sanders and Steve Smith.

As we move into the fall season, organizers have been busy with activities to celebrate the 2^nd Annual Hillsboro Day of the Dead.  The 1^st activity will be a flower making workshop on Sunday August 27^th at 3:30 in the HCC kitchen.  Additional workshops will be available during the months of September and October.  The community wide Day of the Dead celebration will be held Saturday November 4^th.

Continuing monthly events include yoga with Sofia on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10am, AA meetings on Sundays at 6pm.  Common table meets on Monday August 14^th and 28^th at noon in the HCC kitchen. 

The HCC board meetings have been moved to the 3^rd Tuesday of the month at 1pm.  The community is always welcome to attend.
